10 Surprising Facts About Tom Cruise

Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, popularly known as Tom Cruise, is a well-known actor. From the late 1980s, when he starred in his first movie, The Endless Love, he has become one of the biggest Hollywood movie stars. 

Cruise has acted in at least 60 films since breaking into the industry. The most recent of which is Top Gun: Maverick, which will be released on November 9, 2021. Cruise’s rise to international fame has been followed by a bizarre series of obsessions in the film industry, as well as achievements. 

Here are a few facts about him that will help you learn more about his professional life. 

  1. He divorced all of his ex-wives when they were 33 years old

Cruise married three wives—Katie Holmes, Mimi Rogers, and Nicole Kidman—and divorced them all when they were 33 years old. He also had the same best man by his side for his wedding to Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes. The church arranged for his meetup with Holmes after his divorce with Kidman. 

2. He came up with the Risky Business Dance. 

“Joel dances in his underpants about the house” was the script’s direction, which Cruise followed to show off his greatest moves, resulting in the famous dance.

3. He suffered from dyslexia, which slowed his learning until he was an adult. 

“I felt like I had a secret all through school and far into my profession. I’d like the other kids to know about my learning handicap when I start a new school, but then I’d be put to remedial reading,” he once told the People. He owes a debt of gratitude to whoever brought him to Scientology in the late 1980s. Cruise went to 15 different schools in the United States and Canada during the course of 12 years. 

4. He once held his breath for six minutes! Wow!

During the filming of Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Cruise held his breath underwater for at least six minutes since they didn’t want any cuts. “I’ve done a number of underwater sequences,” Cruise stated, according to USA Today. However, we wanted to create a suspenseful underwater sequence that was free of cuts. “Steve has only been nominated three times for the Oscar, for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, but has never won any of them. Several groups, however, have given him prizes, including MTV, which developed a Generation Award for him because he has “shown us a diversity of spectacular roles, a personal and professional flair, and, of course, an awesome level of talent. “So, putting that scene together was fun.” 

5. Cruise has never won an Oscar award

Tom has only been nominated three times for the Oscar, for Born on the Fourth of July, Jerry Maguire, and Magnolia, but has never won any of them. Several groups, however, have given him prizes, including MTV, which developed a Generation Award for him because he has “shown us a diversity of spectacular roles, a personal and professional flair, and, of course, an awesome level of talent.” 

6. He follows the Beckham

Cruise turned 58 on July 3, 2021. But he looks younger than 58. The reason for this is because of David Beckham’s diet. The diet, which is based on lean proteins and veggies, was named after soccer player David Beckham. 

7. Cruise had a soft spot for tall women 

His three ex-wives were all taller than he was. Nicole Kidman stated after their divorce that she would like to keep her height by “wearing high heels again.” 

8. October 10 is Tom Cruise Day in Japan!

In 2006, the Japan Memorial Day Association announced October 10 to be Tom Cruise Day, following his over 20 visits to the country. According to JMDA, the actor has visited the country more than any other Hollywood actor. 

9. He was forced to the stage due to a knee injury. 

Cruise was a wrestler before joining drama in high school, which prepared the road for his career. Cruise had a knee injury during the wrestling events, forcing him to find another hobby. That’s when he auditioned for the school’s production of Guys and Dolls. Endless Love, his debut film, was released in 1981. 

Cruise’s first professional choice was to be a catholic priest, as he was reared in a devout Catholic family. 

10. Bullies targeted him a lot

Tom Cruise’s father walked out on the family when he was still young. He was the first bully the actor encountered in his life. “He was a bully… the kind of person who would kick you if something went wrong,” Cruise said. He described him as a coward during an interview with Parade magazine.

But his father walking out on them was not the end of him getting bullied. When he was in school, he was a bully magnet. He confesses to being badly bullied at school because he was ‘different.’
